Proper Squat Technique

Here is a good video of Andy Bolton on Squat Technique.  Much like the other lifts, technique becomes more and more important as your strength increases.

Squat Set-Up Points:

  • Arched Lower Back
  • Tight Upper Back
  • Chest Out
  • Head Driven Back Into Bar
  • Tight Core
On The Way Down:
  • Force Knees Out
  • Sit Back
  • Weight On Heels
On The Way Up:
  • Be Explosive
  • Keep Head Driven Back
  • Arch Upper Back Hard
These are the key points that you should focus on during your workouts.  However, keep in mind that you can only fix one thing at a time.  You cannot overhaul your entire squat technique in one session.  Fix one thing and move on.  In time your technique will be locked in, and you will become a more efficient lifter.
